Usage

Depending on what status of unions the country has, include the template as one of the following:

{{Same-sex unions |minimal}}

This will expand the relevant list. Alternatively, {{Same-sex unions |expanded=marriage}} also works.

Inclusion criteria

This template includes only countries with a final decision regarding same-sex unions for a full jurisdiction (country/territory/state). If individual registries or judges decide to allow marriages, those jurisdictions are not included here.

For example,

For England and Wales, we only included same-sex marriage after the bill received royal assent, i.e. it was signed by the Queen after being approved by the House of Lords and the House of Commons. Similarly, republics where an executive's signature (e.g., a president or governor's signature) is required, the jurisdiction will only be added after the official(s) signs.

If you think that a change is warranted, it is advisable to first change the corresponding article with reliable sources, or suggest the change (with sources) on the talk page. Changes without sources are much more likely to be reverted.

[kon-2] Performed in the Netherlands proper (including the Caribbean Netherlands), as well as in Aruba and Curaçao. May be registered in Sint Maarten in such cases, but the rights of marriage are not guaranteed.

[3] Neither performed nor recognized in Niue, Tokelau, or the Cook Islands.

[4] Neither performed nor recognized in six British Overseas Territories.

[usa-5] Neither performed nor recognized in some tribal nations. Recognized but not performed in several other tribal nations and American Samoa.

[israel-6] Registered foreign marriages confer all marriage rights. Domestic common-law marriages confer most rights of marriage. Domestic civil marriage recognized by some cities.

[eu-7] The Coman v. Romania ruling of the European Court of Justice obliges the state to provide residency rights for the foreign spouses of EU citizens. Some member states, including Romania, do not follow the ruling.

[8] A "declaration of family relationship" is available in several of Cambodia's communes which may be useful in matters such as housing, but is not legally binding.

[9] Guardianship agreements, conferring some limited legal benefits, including decisions about medical and personal care.

[10] Inheritance, guardianship rights, and residency rights for foreign spouses of legal residents.

[11] Courts have recognised guru–shishya, nata pratha or maitri karar–type contractual relationships, but they are not legally binding.

[12] Some cities and prefectures issue partnership certificates, but they are not legally binding.

[13] Marriages conducted abroad between a Namibian national and a foreign spouse recognized for residency rights.

[14] Hospital visitation rights through a "legal representative" status.
